On June 5th, 2018 at approximately 9:47am Michigan City Police Officers were dispatched to the Kings Inn Motel (201 W. Kieffer Rd.) regarding the discovery of a deceased female found in the south gravel parking lot of the property.   Upon their arrival officers soon learned that the female had apparently been ran over by a vehicle.   Witness statements then lead police to believe that a red tanker truck was possibly responsible for the victim’s injuries.  A photograph from a nearby surveillance camera was then released to the public and within hours the vehicle and its driver were located.

Upon being notified of the incident, the 23yr old female driver of the truck (Carley M. Peel of Bradenton, FL) immediately cooperated with this investigation telling police that she had no idea that her vehicle had struck anyone.   Based on evidence and information obtained on scene it appears that the victim crawled underneath the truck after the driver had already conducted her pre trip inspection of the vehicle.   As the driver pulled forward to exit the parking lot the victim was immediately ran over by the rear wheels of the vehicle.

Note that during the course of this investigation a witness came forward stating that she had observed the victim earlier that morning attempting to stop traffic on Kieffer Rd. by kneeling in front of another semi-truck.   Based on the witness statements, along with the evidence found on scene, no criminal charges will be pursued against the driver of the truck, as it is probable that she had no knowledge of the accident.  The victim has been identified as 61yr old Pamela K. Nadel of LaPorte.  Toxicology results are still pending. The investigation was led by Traffic Commander Jeff Loniewski.
