Craig T. Nelson gives "Incredibles 2" his thumbs up as Pixar thanks fans for record debut
Disney(NEW YORK) — In a tweet featuring a drawing of the super-powered Parr family on a Post-It, Disney/Pixar thanked fans for showing up in droves to this weekend’s debut of Incredibles 2.
The animated sequel, which hit theaters 14 years after the Oscar-winning original, raked in $180 million, the best debut ever for an animated feature and among the top 10 best openings in box office history.
Mr. Incredible himself, Craig T. Nelson, tells ABC Radio even he was impressed by the finished product. “I loved it,” he enthused. “I mean, it was a complete surprise and it was so much fun to do. It was — just you know, it’s as much fun doing it as it is watching it, which is really neat.”
Nelson explained the process of bringing the Parr family together onscreen — his animated onscreen wife, played by Holly Hunter, as well as the rest of the family, didn’t record their scenes together.
“It’s very specific,” Nelson says of his time in the recording booth. “You have a certain amount of time to say the line in. There’s room for experimentation and all that. But it’s really — they’re just as good and doing an editing conversation that’s actually overlapping as they are animating. I mean, Pixar is just amazing. So when you watch it you think, ‘Oh, heck, they had to have been together,’ but they’re not!”
Samuel L. Jackson, Sophia Bush, and Better Call Saul Emmy-winner Bob Odenkirk also lend their voices to Incredibles 2.
