It is often said that the best things in life are free, so why should tax season be an exception? Customers with an adjusted gross income of $66,000 or less in 2018 may be eligible to file both state and federal taxes at no cost with the Indiana Department of Revenue’s (DOR) free-file program (INfreefile). INfreefile is in its 16th year of offering free online tax filing services to Hoosiers, using the same electronic question-and-answer style vendor software most customers pay to use. Filing electronically results in faster refunds with customers typically getting their refunds in about two to three weeks. If individuals opt for direct deposit of their refunds, they may receive their refunds even faster. For access to the no-cost filing program along with a complete list of qualifications by vendor, customers may visit the INfreefile website at freefile.dor.in.gov. If customers participated in the program previously and held an account with one of the vendors, they will still need to create a new account to utilize INfreefile. Customers with questions or concerns about INfreefile or individual income tax may visit DOR’s website at dor.in.gov or call DOR Customer Service at 317-232-2240, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., EST for assistance.
