Free seminar at Franciscan Health Michigan City presents new treatments for heartburn and acid reflux
People suffering from heartburn and acid reflux, especially after eating, can learn about new treatments and procedures in a free presentation on Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease, also known as GERD.
Physicians David Fumo, MD, Thomas W. Shin, MD, and Sandra Wischmeyer, DO, will present the seminar and discuss the latest technology to diagnose and treat GERD at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Franciscan Health Michigan City, 3500 Franciscan Way.
More than 60 million Americans have occasional heartburn and more than 15 million suffer from daily heartburn. GERD is caused by stomach acid refluxing into the esophagus, causing burning and irritation. About 40 percent of people with GERD also have a hiatal hernia, which contributes to the symptoms.
As part of a comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients with symptoms of GERD, Franciscan Health Michigan City is the only facility in the area to invest in the latest technology to accurately diagnose this condition:
· Bravo Reflux Recorder: Measures and records the pH in the esophagus to determine the incidence and severity of GERD.
· EndoFLIP: Minimally invasive device that offers a more complete view of digestive disease.
Guests will be provided with refreshments and giveaways. This event is free, but attendees must register in advance by calling (800) 931-3322.
