A semi crashed on I-80/94 early Wednesday morning, then caught fire destroying its tractor and damaging its trailer. Preliminary investigation by Sergeant Dwayne Dillahunty revealed at approximately 1:25 a.m., a Kenworth tractor pulling a loaded low boy trailer (industrial washer), and driven by a 61 year old Arizona man, was eastbound on I-80/94 when he entered the far right merge lane to I-80/90 (Indiana Toll Road). The semi ran off the roadway and struck the impact attenuator. The impact resulted in the tractor catching fire that totally destroyed the tractor and the front end of the trailer sustained damage.  The industrial washer (load) appeared undamaged. The driver had no injuries. The eastbound lanes of traffic were closed until approximately 3:00 a.m., when the inner shoulder and left lane were open to traffic.
