Indiana State Police are investigating a crash on Interstate 80 that left one young woman seriously injured. Preliminary investigation by Trooper William Carlson determined that at 5:35 AM on Saturday a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling eastbound on I-80, struck the rear of a semi-trailer and spun out of control. The crash occurred just west of Calumet Ave. The pickup came to a stop facing westbound in the eastbound lanes and the semi-truck stopped at the scene, also in the eastbound lanes. The pickup was a 2019 black Ford F-150 being driven by 33 year old Patrick Clinton of Bolingbrook, IL. The semi-truck was a 2012 Freightliner being driven by 46 year old Tereso Gamboa of Carpentersville, IL. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound at the time of the crash. Initial indications are that the pickup, being driven by Mr. Clinton, struck the back left corner of the semi-trailer with its front right passenger corner. The pickup then spun alongside the semi-truck and ultimately came to a stop in front of it facing backwards in the roadway. The passenger of the F-150, an unidentified female, was seriously injured and taken to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL with life threatening injuries. It does not appear that seatbelts were used by the occupants of the F-150. A citation for unsafe lane movement was issued to Patrick Clinton. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.
