Today, Mayor-elect Tom Dermody announced his administration’s department leaders, including a new Police Chief and Assistant Fire Chief.

“This team has the energy and experience to lead La Porte on day one,” Mayor-elect Tom Dermody said. “Each one of these department heads and public safety chiefs have high expectations to take La Porte to the next level to compete with the best Indiana has to offer.”

Dermody selected Paul Brettin who currently serves as the Shift Captain at the City of La Porte Police Department and has served the department in various capacities during his 25 years as a public safety official.

“Paul has well-rounded experience to keep the great City of La Porte safe,” Dermody said. “Paul and Nate, both, have high-caliber ambition to help address the drug trafficking issue by bringing back a drug enforcement team to unite with the county and Michigan City drug taskforce squads.”

Snyder will continue to lead the La Porte Fire Department as Fire Chief alongside the new Assistant Fire Chief Kelly Burke.
“Chief Snyder has been putting out fires for more than 30 years, and has been a steady pillar within our community,” Dermody said. “I am looking forward to see how Andy and Kelly work together to train and prepare the future leaders of the La Porte Fire Department.”

Dermody and his team of leaders will continue to communicate with the public the future plans for the City of La Porte. Among those plans, Dermody will be announcing the directors for Code Enforcement and Transportation soon.
